Five seconds later I turn around and the item in question is in Maddy’s hands.
Me: What did I say?! JUST FOR LOOKING!
Maddy (annoyed): I AM just looking! I’m looking with my hands!

Walking down the street with independently-minded two-year-old. (Which is to say, utterly normal one.)
Me: It’s a busy street. You need to hold hands.
Tot: No hold hands.
Me: You may hold hands with me or with daddy or with Suzie, but you must hold hands. Whose hand will you hold?
Tot thinks, then grasps her two hands firmly together in front of her.
“I holdin’ hands.”
